Worrying Statistics of Users Now Use E-Cigarettes, Warns Global Health Organization
Over 100 hundred million individuals, comprising at bare minimum 15 million minors, now utilize e-cigarettes, driving a recent trend of nicotine habit, according to current worldwide health findings.
Youth are, on average, nine times more likely than mature individuals to vape, based on current global figures.
Electronic cigarettes are fueling a "new wave" of nicotine dependency, commented a leading health representative. "These devices are advertised as risk reduction but, actually, are ensnaring kids on nicotine sooner and risk weakening years of improvement."
Adolescents Being 'Targeted'
"Millions of people are ceasing, or not taking up tobacco usage because of tobacco control measures by nations throughout the planet," the official said.
"As an answer to this substantial improvement, the tobacco sector is fighting back with new nicotine devices, actively focusing on young people. Authorities must respond faster and stronger in enacting established tobacco-control regulations," he added.
The vaping figures are an estimate since some countries - 109 in all, and many in Africa and Southeast Asia - fail to collect data.
Per the study, as of recent February this year, at least 86 million e-cigarette users were adults, primarily in developed countries.
And at minimum 15 million adolescents aged 13 and 15 presently use e-cigarettes, based on surveys from 123 states.
While numerous countries have attempted to introduce e-cigarette rules to address underage vaping in the past few years, by the end of 2024, 62 countries even now had no regulation in effect, and 74 nations had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be purchased, says the public health authority.
Meanwhile, tobacco usage has been dropping - from an approximated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Prevalence of tobacco consumption among females fell the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
With men, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But one in five of mature individuals internationally yet consumes tobacco.
Cigarette consumption is connected to many conditions, like cancer.
Specialists say vaping is significantly less harmful than traditional cigarettes, and can help you quit smoking. It is advised against for non-smokers.
Vaping devices eliminate burning tobacco and do not create resin or toxic gas, a couple of the most dangerous components in tobacco fumes. They have nicotine, which might be habit-forming.
