The relatives of teens missing after a deadly inferno at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their loved ones via social media.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Circulated footage show the ceiling catching alight as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of 40 people and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson noted on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process continuing to name the final individuals.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been using online platforms to plead for information about their missing relatives who were at the bar that evening.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of a town near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she said.
She added that some of his friends had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has said that six of its nationals have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who represented dedication and authentic values."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has clarified that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His parent explained that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and found himself at the venue.
"A companion informed me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
