Thomas Tuchel Desires Jude Bellingham's Fire Provided England's Ace Leaves Egotism at the Door.

A single omission proved sufficient. A second one and it would have started to look spiteful from the England manager, a coach who is much too clever not to know that winning the World Cup will likely need contributions by the talented midfielder, even if it is equally up to the player to fit into the strategic frameworks and squad hierarchies essential with England now that he is back in Tuchel's warm embrace.

The manager desires the player's competitive fire, his passion, but it is about harnessing it appropriately. Individual quality counts but England know from bitter experience that there is consequences when fame dominates. Nevertheless, a statement has been delivered.

Bellingham was given food for thought after being left out of the previous squad. He observed England secure their spot at the upcoming World Cup in his absence. He saw Morgan Rogers perform brilliantly as a high-pressing attacking midfielder. He heard the coach discuss appreciating the squad's spirit and ethics. Naturally, he has reacted in champion style, scoring crucial goals for Real Madrid versus their rivals and the Italian side. His selection was inevitable; another omission would have left his World Cup hopes precarious.

The hope is that Tuchel will have a Bellingham directed towards intimidating opponents instead of teammates. After all, on a pure footballing level, there is little benefit to starting a conflict with a top talent in the world. The best outcome is that his period not playing has shown him that an international career is a precious, uncertain thing. The coach, on his side, can now throw a protective shield for the 22-year-old after showing that he is unafraid to take tough decisions.

“No issue exists regarding him, there is no problem about his personality,” the German stated. “Jude possesses the edge. You need a sharp mentality to reach the heights that he has. We all must support him and create a setting where he can [have] that intensity in matches and in pursuit of success we are building as a team.”

Bellingham took up much of the focus at the manager's selection reveal for this month’s dead-rubber qualifiers versus one opponent and the other. Who else? Well, how about another talent? This is a further gifted playmaker in need of love and guidance. He has not played for England since March and has struggled to perform well recently but the boss had to consider the 25-year-old after his performance in Manchester City’s win against Borussia Dortmund recently.

The issue, though, is the best way to deploy the multiple playmakers at the team's disposal. Morgan Rogers and Eze deserve their spots and there will be a strong case to include another youngster once he is fit after a persistent groin problem. Would taking multiple creators to the tournament be too many? The previous manager failed to discover the optimal mix at Euro 2024. He compromised by forcing both stars into the starting lineup, cramping Harry Kane’s influence as a result.

It seems unlikely Tuchel repeating that if it hurts the offensive structure. Space exists for one No 10, with fast wide players on the flanks. Clear roles helps. Bellingham is in as a No 10. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, called up for the first occasion, is a central midfielder and the recalled Wharton will vie with Elliot Anderson as a defensive midfielder. There will also be no position on the wing for the City star, who must play through the middle. Tuchel prefers him close to Kane. “It does not make sense to ask Phil: ‘You are needed on the pitch but no spot exists in your preferred role, could you fill in at the left side? Can you play other flank?’” he said. “He will play in the central attacking zone, in the middle of the pitch. I've long had this idea about him for a long time. In my view it matches his abilities best.”

He agreed there are occasions when the player has appeared uncomfortable in an national jersey. “You feel as if, ‘Does he really enjoy it? And a player like him who has obvious passion to play football, then clearly something is not right, be it the position, the environment, I don’t know.

“In my opinion he is additionally accustomed to representing his club in a certain structure, with a clear task. I think he profits a lot from clarity. Where do you want me to be? Where exactly should I turn? Where am I supposed to accelerate the match? Where do I have to defend?

The manager mentioned Bellingham making runs for easy finishes and the other drilling in strikes from outside the box. He said he has a longlist of many candidates. Several players, others, James Trafford and the midfielder have dropped out. Nico O’Reilly is recognized for his good displays for City at left-back. Interest abounds.

Leaving out of Ollie Watkins means there is no like-for-like alternative for the captain in this squad. Fascinatingly, he suggested deploying Foden as a false 9 versus one opponent or the other. Other options, the United forward, the midfielder and Jarrod Bowen are other options if Kane be unavailable. Since the place is booked, this is a moment for trying new things.

Meanwhile, it is also a chance to foster the understanding with Bellingham going. It is remarkable that you have to go back to the latter assisting Kane to score in an international match against Scotland in over a year ago to discover the one and only time in many appearances for England when the pair combined for a goal. The coach will know that Kane and Bellingham only passed to each other once during England’s draws with one opponent and Slovenia at the European Championship. Their partnership is missing.

“This is where at some point it becomes the duty of the individuals,” Tuchel stated. He does not shy away to be blunt. Remains a feeling of the player under scrutiny. He cannot even be guaranteed to begin against Serbia and Albania. The manager desires him committed but he will be monitoring him closely. Leave self-importance at the door. Doing so could turn a very strong England team into an superior one.
