The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
