The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
