Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a record £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
