Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
