Homages Flow for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to share openly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can now put my grief into words," posted Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the movie, adding that he cannot recall "a single day without joy".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge decided to block the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate issued a embargo on the cases to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" connected to the active case.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the killings, public individuals expressed varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making provocative remarks that were broadly criticized by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors last week. Talking on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an associate ought to have intervened when the decision to weigh in on the passing was made.
