A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of pastimes much better than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you missed any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
